In 1962, the idea of a theatre came to fellow artists Dan Reinhold and Peter Gstalder as they walked through the abandoned dairy barn. Over the next year, through the herculean efforts of dozens of people, the dream became a reality when the Playhouse opened its doors in July 1963.
Millbrook Playhouse: The First Fifty Years by Kathy Arndt traces the history of one of the few barn theatres still existing in the Eastern United States. The actors, crew, staff, board members, business supporters, donors, volunteers, the theatre-going public, and the participants in the children and youth programs all played a role in the history of Millbrook Playhouse.
This is their story.
